Beijing 2008 is only the third Olympic Games in history to produce at least 20 world records in the Swimming competition. The others were the Munich 1972 (28) and Montreal 1976 (26) Olympic Games.
Phelps has now recorded five world records in Individual Olympic events, surpassing Americans Mark Spitz and John Hencken, who previously held the best mark with four.
With the heats in the Women's 50m Freestyle, Men's 1500m Freestyle, Women's 4 x 100m Medley Relay and Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay still to come, more world records could follow.
